Up close and personal with a few lions

Lion photo using BeetleCam

Now, how do you get to take photos of a Lion without having to use a massive 800mm super telephoto or without being eaten?  You use a remote control car with a camera attached of course, cutely named Beetlecam.

Will Burrard-Lucas and his brother Matt came up with this great idea and have undertaken several trips to Africa to take photos of Lions, elephants, buffalos, you name it!

It looks like some of their Beetlecams have taken a bit of a pounding, but what a great idea! I hope their Canon 1Ds Mark III is insured.

You can read more about their experiences in their blog post BeetleCam vs the Lions of the Masai Mara. And here’s their BeetleCam project.

About Joe

I've been an avid photographer for about 15 years now. It started out when I got my first decent digital camera, which was an Olympus C700 Ultra zoom, a great camera which allowed me experiment with a range of photography styles. After that I moved on to SLRs, mostly with Canon, and enjoy all forms of photography although I'd probably say I most enjoy wide-angle landscape photography. My day job is to run this website, so I hope you enjoy your visit!
